Jawahar Tunnel Avalanche Update : One more body recovered: Death toll reaches 8 :

Dead body of SGCT Parvaiz Ahmad resident of Ganderbal was recovered by the rescue teams from the Avalanche site near Jawar Tunnel today morning taking the death toll to 8.

11 persons were missing when Police Post near Jawar Tunnel came under a snow avalanche on Thursday evening .

The rescue operation was started Friday morning under the supervisionof Deputy Commissioner Anantnag and three persons were rescued from the avalanche yesterday.

 The rescued persons were identified as Mohammad Khalil resident of Imoh, Verinag, Gulam Nabi resident of Kulgam and Selection grade Constable Mohammad Maqbool .
Seven dead bodies were also recovered till Friday evening.

The deceased have been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Parrey (Selection Grade Fireman, belt No. 1571), Firdous Ahmad Bhat (Head Constable of Fire Service, Driver No. 181), Constable Arshad Gul (1000/ Kgm), Head Constable Muzaffar Ahmad Dar resident of Munward , Anantnag (125/ Kgm.), Shabnam Gul of (Dog Squad) resident of Hillar, Kokernag, Vikram Singh, a civilian, son of Kalvender Singh of Salan Talab Udhampur and Baljeet Singh, civilian, son of Hari Singh of Dera Baba Nanak Gurdaspur Punjab.

The duo were arrested two days back with narcotics at the Jawahar Tunnel.

One policeman, Parvez Ahmad (220/ Kgm) of Ganderbal is was missing and his body was recovered today morning. .

With the recovery of eight dead body the rescue operation has concluded.
